In Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture, devastated by the earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011, the children of the area has nowhere to play sports freely and safely. Architecture for Humanity and KYSIN-no-kai will collaborate on the Kamaishi "Park-for-All" project to provide a space where children can enjoy sports activites at ease while being surrounded by nature of Kamaishi.
Our proposal is to plant trees indigenous to Tohoku District along the three sides of the park. From the north end, people can enjoy the views of Kamaishi port and the magnificent mountains over the Koushi River. Green mounds with gradual slope surround the pitch, where people could lie on the grass for a nap or watch the children play games freely.
The "Home-for-All" clubhouse will be built on a small hill and be equipped with locker rooms, a saloon, an administration office, etc. This will be a place where the local residents and their children gather around a wood stove after a game of sports to have warm conversations. The unique design of the roof will become a symbol of the area.
