Football-Field-Upgrade-1.0

ADD-VALUE: The football field of Siyathemba is upgraded into a real stadium.

HOW?-1: Features of a stadium are acknowledged and interpreted. Name, signs and other aspects are considered. The “Siyathemba Football Stadium” features spectator stands, snack- and food-outlets, gift-shop, result-board and ad-boards; all with a twist to fit their new purpose.

HOW?-2: The stadium is created by digging into the ground and bulldozing the excavated earth into banks creating stands and a clear boundary of the pitch. Other functions will be dug out of the banks leaving only roofs having to be added to complete them. The banks also direct water to the pitch improving conditions for the grass.

Around the pitch fast growing trees are planted to further enhance the image of a stadium. This is carried out as a commercial plantation serving a double purpose. The trees provide shadow and support light-fittings as well as economy. Suspended textiles add spatiality.

RESULT: Ad-boards carry information about HIV/AIDS and addition of the commercial functions helps the football field become usable as a gathering site and meeting place. It is a place larger than football and an important part of the community, thus more effective in its intention of reaching out.
