SITING AND REASONS FOR TELEMEDICINE CENTER
The telemedicine center- health facility and community technology center is located in the poorest country in Asia the Achham district of western Nepal. It provides medical services to the town and the surrounding villages. In the region there is only one doctor for every 250 000 people that’s why local healthcare workers need international medical help from around the globe. Internet acces to medical databases will optimize patient care (from every consultation could depend patients life).
The area of the building site is 2 acres. The building will be located near the “new clinic” on the hill about 25 meters above a small stream.
DESIGN DESCRIPTION
The idea of this project is movable and cost-effective building connects the powerfull expression of the Nepals tradition with modern technology and practice style made by great imported and/or local materials. The design was inspired by cultural context local traditional architecture which should be inviting to people and make them feel safe and comfortable. I offer a range of prototype equipped containers that could be implemented based on the existing knowledge of construction and the site conditions. The building appears to defy gravity as it is situated on the wooden pillars. The reason is the local climate and some risk of landslides and similar disasters. On that bearing we have got eight movable containers connected to each other. Notching and holing out connections could easily be done.
Only 4 from 8 containers must be imported with the telemedicine equipment, the outhers could be made from local materials. Moreover the main 4 boxes has internal walls estabilished as a traditional sign of the sun and happiness. Local people are grooving this sign in the bricks always while they are build own houses. The facades of the center are made from aluminium plates of white geometrical minimal shape. They are covering polurathe insulation of boxes. A flat metal plates invent with vivid colors delicately reflected under plexi glass windows and steel windows ornate blinds. That colors are from containers each has different tint and function. Deck floor panels can be fill of waterproof timber plinks.
The building plan is arranged for community components public space and medical components. The public space is smaller in proportions but extended by wooden deck covered by bamboo thatched roof. The frames are supporting a steel structure with the timber natural form. The function is located on an open plan and the architectural space has rooms that open into each other but close if is necessary. Separate of the exterior and interior is by the sliding plexi glass door and/ or window ornate blinds. Plexi glazing helps reduce the artificial lighting needs. The slope of the roof is designed for install solar energy panels and rainwater collectors. Natural ventilation will also be providing comfort passive cooling and heating.
As a modular system can be transported by helicopter, lorry or barge and erected on the site in short time. Also is easy to change quite quickly the position of building if there is some danger that’s why investing to build this centre is profitable. The interior of the telemedicine center is friendly light color airy and ergonomic furnished leaving an open spaces with views out to the landscape on all sides. When the wall panels are opened the side elevations reveal the transparency or can by optical isolate by roller blinds. Thanks that people inside can have constant visual contact with the surrounding landscape while visiting doctor, studying, chatting and can connect with nature on the public deck. This building has to be practical from medical site and has to invite people to carrying about their health and safety. The containers with tele-medicine access will bring help from all over the globe, straight to people from Nepal, and tourists.
