Pac Rim Studio | DESIGN WEAVING CENTERS: To prevent Human Trafficking and to create strong communities through sustainable livelihoods, artisanal communities in Southeast Asia need stable economic options and infrastructure.

We will design weaving centers for sites in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand) incorporating local materials and traditional and vernacular building methods while creating inventive, off-the-grid facilities. Project partners Lulan Artisans, will train local communities to build, develop and maintain these centers, thereby creating green jobs that feature participatory design processes. These cooperatives will utilize hybrid solar, rainwater collection, ecological water reuse and treatment and natural ventilation. Centers need to be flexible for expansion from 40 to 120 weavers. Since these cooperatives spin, dye, weave and finish fabric, all of these process functions will be included in the facilities. [time: approx. 3 weeks, intro studio module]
