SURF TREstleSAFE
The land lies fixed awaiting the caresses of its counterpart, water. A friction occurs and with the right wind waves form and surfing succeeds. Somewhere in all this is man and his interventions. He creates the missing link from his activities and interaction with the site, but also he creates a visual and experiential disconnect. To understand the relationship between all in finding a Safe passage, we must look beyond the horizon and within the shore, within the earth and above the lands to find reasons and points of common grounds for co-existence. Nature, man and machine living in an equilibrium and supporting the functional existence of the other requires the realization that mutual relationship is possible but with some effort.
Trestles has all the qualities of a beautiful and engaging site. No doubt the train which adds to the overall movement of the site contributes in adding to shared experiences and memories as well as individual adventures in and around.
This proposal for a safe passage to Trestles, SURF TREstleSAFE, harnesses the potentials of all the elements present in and around the Site; from the creation of terraced steps that generate energy for basic lighting and board facilities to the use of wind fans placed within the partial tunnel-like spaces around the train which have their energy stored for use in and around.
The marsh-like mimicking steps adapt to their environment, while some part of the cascading steps are adorned with existing plants from the site. The effect is a visual stand for relaxation, observation and interaction from all users, be it plants, animal or train.
STRUCTURE:
There exist numerous elements in the design and they are listed as follows-
* The mural wall which has the culture and civilization of the Acjachemen people
carved on to it by an artist.
* This same wall supports the ramps and stairs leading down from the bluff.
* The East end of the wall has a water fountain framing the vista from the train.
* The major path through the marsh lands is restricted access from it and is elevated
a bit to allow for aeration and water circulation.
* Restrooms are located at the west end of the mural wall...as well as on top of the bluff.
• Platform is finished with timber.
IT should be stated that the sketch shows closer a feel of the terracing multi-leveling steps as compared to the singular curve of the 3D. Thanks
