Street FUNiture 2.0
We have an opportunity to provide Street FUNiture for Rosa Parks Elementary School A little history about the project: Eco Media partnered up with CBS and did a “Green My School” contest. Rosa Parks Elementary won the challenge and as a result will be getting a new rooftop garden. Eco Media is the client and is getting together all of the donated products from all sorts of amazing companies including Greenscreen and Roof Pak. They’ve also got some pro-bono services from WRNS (architect - Melinda is the Project Manager) and DPR (contractor) . Since this is a part of the Sustainable SFUSD program (see below) the mayor has gotten involved a bit and there may be some press at the final unveiling or something of that nature.
Street FUNiture 1.0
Street FUNiture is a project of Architecture for Humanity San Francisco. This project was inspired by the idea farmers’ markets are a great place for community to connect with each other and with their food producers, meet new people, enjoy the bounty of the market, munch on prepared foods, and enjoy the music. The furniture was designed and built from old furniture pieces that we deconstructed and salvaged building materials. We hope these pieces encourage market goers to enjoy their day at the market, linger a while longer, and make new friends. :)
Challenge: Design really awesome flexible street furniture that can be plopped down on a street corner for public enjoyment, to provide extra seating for an event, encourage gathering in a public plaza. The furniture can have multiple uses, but should be stable and structurally sound, easy to deploy, maneuver and configure in different places (the easier they are to move around the better!).
BONUS: pieces should be so beautiful we can auction them off at a future fundraiser for AfH-SF!
