NAME: Gateway Greening Tool Shed
LOCATION: Saint Louis, Missouri, United States
START DATE: Spring 2009
CURRENT PHASE: Design Development/Fundraising
BUILDING TYPE: Storage shed

DESCRIPTION:

Architecture for Humanity, Saint Louis is helping a local non-profit
add on to their current facilities. Gateway Greening "promotes urban
neighborhood vitality and stability, healthy living and quality of
life through community food projects, education and wellness programs, and civic greening." (www.gatewaygreening.org) They currently own a site that contains a demonstration garden, hoop/green houses and a carriage house that they are rehabbing into a community gathering space and workshop.

Currently, the bottom floor is filled with tools and equipment and there is no room for projects. Gateway Greening desired a storage building, adjacent to the carriage house, for their gardening/landscaping equipment (chippers, mowers, trimmers, etc). AFH-STL has developed a schematic design for the shed, designed with used utility poles and other salvaged materials. In addition, a plant wall has been incorporated into the design in order to showcase the mission of Gateway Greening. The project is currently being submitted for a grant and with appropriate funds will be built in the near future.
