Arch 525 – Special Design Topic – Summer 2010

Course Syllabus

Worldchanging 2.0

Course description:
This elective course work will work with Architecture For Humanity and Worldchanging.

What is Worldchanging?

Worldchanging is an online, open source community dedicated to improving living conditions through innovative and sustainable design. Here designers of all persuasions can:
• Share their ideas, designs and plans
• View and review designs posted by others
• Collaborate with each other, people in other professions and community leaders to address specific design challenges
• Manage design projects from concept to implementation
• Communicate easily amongst team members
• Protect their intellectual property rights using the Creative Commons "some rights reserved" licensing system and be shielded from unwarranted liability
• Build a more sustainable future Source:
Created several years ago, the site contains almost 5,000 projects around the world. While the site was initially created to generate the open sharing of ideas, it has become unruly in its size and structure and thus is entering the proverbial 2.0 phase. This elective will work with AFH to help usher in the new 2.0 future.

The goals of the course will be to:
? Create additional construction detail information on specific projects within the site.
? Create geo-spatial data to locate projects globally.
? Create material/building pattern data to locate projects by climatic zones.
? Generally, save the world.
