MALAKAS! is a 40-minute documentary film that tells the story of how three barangays (villages) in Cagayan de Oro City in the Philippines were engaged in a community participatory process to design their own systems of organic waste management in support of local food production. Both the film and the project it documents were orchestrated by Jeannette Tramhel and were made possible by a Graduate Research and Design ECOPOLIS Award from Canada's International Development Research Centre.
