On Saturday, August 11, 2012, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 Richter, struck East Azarbaijan at 38° 19 19.2 N 46° 52 48 E. The earthquake damage and forthcoming cold season heighten the needs of local people to enclosed buildings. Furthermore, there is a growing need to build special places for domesticated animals, as the local people subsist mainly on animal husbandry.
The Design Team (the architecture students) undertook an initiative to develop a project based on preliminary studies on the region. The proposed plan was first scrutinized, then improved and was prepared for construction.
The Project is planned to be built near the city of Heris. The prototype was tentatively built in a garden near Heris to identify possible challenges.
The prototype, which is based on an understanding of the region, has the following main features:
1.Local materials are used for construction.
2.Biodegradable materials are used.
3.Maximum possible use of available materials is ensured.
4.The common construction methods in the region are followed.
5.The prototype can be developed in other places.
6.The project itself can also be developed.
