Heritage Foundation has carried out emergency shelter and rehabilitation activities in the Earthquake 2005 area (EQAA) under a programme titled Heritage for Rehabilitation and Development. The program has been implemented in the Siran Valley in remote mountainous communities 6,000 above sea level.

In 2008, KIRAT (KaravanPakistan Institute for Research and Training) has been set up at Heritage Foundation Base Camp In EQAA where experimentation with local materials is being carried out. We have been successful in developing long lasting mud mortars mixed with sand, lime, straw and juggery.

The Program
The first unit is completed in Swat and the team hopes to complete 10 units with community participation before Eid (i.e. 10th September). From mid-September construction of 100 additional units will be undertaken in Swat.
