ABSTRACT
Per request of Mr. Douglas Raymond, Architecture for Humanity was asked to do a site assessment of Collège Mixte Frère Raymond.
SITE/SCHOOL INFORMATION
The site is approximately 6,336 sqft. The school provides education to 275 students, with a team of 33 teachers. The Primary section of the school operates from 7am to 12pm, and the secondary from 1pm-5pm. Lack of space causes classes to take place right next to each other with no physical barriers. Tuition is $60-$150 a month and doesn’t include food nor school books. There isn’t enough funding available in order to feed the kids, therefore they buy food or bring their lunch from home.
BUILDING DATA
The second story of the existing structure where the administration and classrooms were located has completely collapsed. Classes are being held under tents, while the lower floor of the existing structure has become storage space and sleeping rooms for teachers and Director. According to Mr. Exantus, the building adjacent to the site on the west side belongs to the school director–this property may potentially serve as expansion space for the school.
There are only 3 bathrooms available with a small kitchen area adjacent to it.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The structure adjacent to the school has suffered major structural damages and will need to be taken down as soon as possible. It is an endangerment to the lives of the students using the facility.
New Bathroom facilities that can meet the needs of 275 students.
