Location: Cite Soleil

Assessment

Date:
Weather conditions: Sunny and Dry

The existing conditions for this site are as follows. There is a two story building on the site. The building is very close to neighboring residential homes (setback issue). The structure is on a sloped site with makeshift exterior steps leading to the rear of the building. Small amounts of debris still exist on the exterior of the building. Three rooms were observed on the first floor and four rooms were observed on the second floor. Not all rooms were accessible (locked). There are concrete floors throughout the interior of the building. The stairs leading up to the second floor are in poor conditions and the concrete is not properly reinforced. Since the structure is not properly reinforced and rotten rebar is exposed through out the building further investigation will be needed to ensure how much of the building is salvageable. There is no designated parking area for the site

Notes
- First floor +/- 4 rooms and second floor 5 rooms
- Hall ways are narrow
- Some classrooms do not have enough wall space to accommodate such things as a chalkboard
- Courtyard ground needs to be repaved and existing playground is not suitable for play. New and safe playground would be ideal
- Building consists of unfinished windows
- Building consists of uneven and unfinished walls

- No running water
- Rebar protrudes through walls and columns
- Landing of staircase should be a minimum of 4 feet (recommended). The staircase would at least need to be reinforced with support columns if not totally reinforced or replaced (recommended).
- Stairs are attached to exterior window
- No stair railings
- No door frames and no window frames present throughout the building
- School needs to be built with finished walls and paint
- No room for a designated parking area unless the space is taken from the front courtyard
- For corrugated aluminum roof, ties, hangers and plates are non-existent and are recommended to join beams and joists.
- Second floor rear walls need to be removed
- Concrete block walls and concrete columns are not properly reinforced throughout the building
- Rotten rebar is exposed throughout the first floor concrete ceiling (overhang) on the exterior or building right below second floor exterior back and side wall
- Electrical work present but unfinished
- No means of emergency egress on second floor
