San Isidro Chapel
Project Type:
architecture
Project Mission/Goal:
improve the human spirit
Project Description: The chapel of San Isidro Labrador is a collaborative effort between architects, engineers, craftsmen, farmers, builders and students of the San Bartolo community, Mexico.
As a result of the meeting between Joao Caeiro and Fulvio Capurso (the RootStudio) with Benito Guzman Canseco (President of the Consejo de Oaxaca y Nopal Tuna, and Mayordomo of San Isidro for 2009) they came up with the idea to organize a series of courses to teach how to build quality houses using noble materials of the region. These courses aim to demonstrate the feasibility of low-cost building with high quality and contemporary design. The project has enabled the development of the San Isidro Chapel in San Bartolo Coyopec as a place of worship and celebration of the patron saint of the cultivated fields, annually celebrated.
