Project Name: Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres

Project Type:
architecture

Project Mission/Goal:
improve the human spirit

Project Description:
Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres are a place where people dealing with cancer - in their own life or in the life of someone they care about - can go to find information, support and solace. The care given is not medical, rather it is focused on the emotional, mental and spiritual well-being of those who visit the centres. Architecturally, the centres are designed to be warm and comforting, open and inviting, and are arranged around a 'kitchen table': a social space for visitors, workers and professionals to gather for a cup of tea, conversation and casual meetings. Seperate, more private spaces are also included for more personal conversations and reflection.

There are currently six Maggie's Centres open, with plans for at least eight more. The built projects are attributed to the following designers:

Maggie's Edinburgh : Richard Murphy
Maggie's Glasgow & Maggie's Highlands : Page \ Park
Maggie's Dundee : Frank Gehry
Maggie's Fife : Zaha Hadid
Maggie's London : Rogers, Stirk Harbour + Partners
