The Santa Fe Community Farm Entry

Overviewteamupdatesworkspacecalendarfiles

The Community Farm, established by John Stephenson, now 95 yrs old, has been donating all produce for the past 60 years. However, they are lacking a known presence in the community in part due to lack of visibility. The location of the farm is a challenging one for visibility - it is located on a 90-degree corner just past a river crossing south of town, and because of the lot line layout, can only be seen if one is driving northward. There is no street-front in the desired direction. Their only sign, a wooden one, built & painted by volunteers years ago, was recently destroyed by a vehicle.

Architecture for Humanity – Santa Fe is working on a design & build project for an entry that is sensitive to John’s functional style and the character of the surrounding neighborhood. Two low walls that flank the entrance will harbor an artistic replica of the existing sign (the paper-doll graphic of farmers with vegetable-heads was too clever). The orientation will be such that someone driving across the river, towards the farm will see it from a distance. Architecture for Humanity is excited for the opportunity to return a favor to John Stephenson who has served Santa Fe for nearly a lifetime.
