Yingxin Primary School Accessorial Kindergarten, Yingxin Town, An County, Mianyang, Sichuan, China

Partner Description

  • General Introduction

Yingxin Primary School Accessorial Kindergarten is located in Yingxin Primary School, Yuefeng Village, Yingxin Town. The Primary School was buidt in 1990, occupying 11,000 square meter. Restricted to the local policies and economies, there is no an individual kindergarten founded by the government of Yingxin Town till now, but an accessorial kindergarten which is put together with the primary school. Now nearly 100 kids are educated in the kindergarten, which has only 2 grades, the upper and the lower, with each class approximate 50 kids in it. The staff consists of 1 headmaster and 3 teachers.

  • Effects in 5.12 Earthquake

The previous teaching buildings were distroyed in 5.12 Earthquake Disaster, with 2 kids lost, several injured and Headmaster Zhang walking impaired. After the earthquake, the shool was built up with the temporary sample houses efficiently, located in the original area of ruin. With the help and effort from the government and teachers, children come back to classes in a short period of time. But till now, they are still studying in the temporary frame houses.

Location

  • Geographic Information

Yingxin Town, where Yingxin Primary School Accessorial Kindergarten established, is a remote rural area lying in Southwest of An County at the longitude between 103°54? and 104°20? east, latitude between 30°09? and 31°42? north. The rainfall averages 1053.2mm a year and the sunlight 1011.3hrs.

  • Local Conditions

The local financial income is in a low level mainly depending on the agriculture such as rice and wheat planting. There are nearly about half of the families supported by working and earning outside of the town, leaving their chidren and grandprarents at home, which leads to the void of family education. On the other hand, the local educational industry gains little additional financial support from the upper government and the local enterprises for the reason both from the blind spot of political administration and the shortage of natural resources. The headmaster and the teachers of the kindergarten almost teach for free with their good wills, working for a very small salary. What really counts is that the kindergarten was put up totally on the donation from the headmaster and the teachers who suffer hardships in their own livings.

Partner's Needs

  • Current Situation

For the reasons mentioned above, the kindergarten has no financial assistance from both the government and local industry after the earthquake. It is maintained in no more than 150 sq.m. with 2 temporary houses, appreantly below the standard of area. The sample houses are in bad conditions: lack of lightness (for windows at only 1m height in 3m lightweight clapboard), high in electricity fees (more than 3 times the fees compared with previous building, which increase from 100 RMB to 300 RMB per month), unbearably hot in summer (for the sample houses built in metal materials ), humid (usually dewing on the surface of the celling for the same reason ), dusty in interior, leak at edges and corners. What’s more, the open area is seriously in short, only 80 sq.m. available for 100 children!

  • A New Classroom in Need

Although the upper government has guaranteed to rebuild the schools in 3 years, the kindergarten, an accessorial part of the primary school, beomes a blind spot without official and local attentions. After our first contact with the local government and the school, we come to an agreement that the kindergarten needs a new classroom, creating better educational circumstances and considering the exsiting problems.

  • Hardware Facilities Reinforcement

In addition to a new classroom required, appliances for teaching and toys for children are in dire need. With our teacher’s help, We have contacted with communites and mass media in Chendu (capital city of Sichuan Province). Many of them agree with our ideas and make a promise to the kindergarten that they will provide hardware facilities and a long-term substaintial support if the new classroom set up.
