FLOATING CLASSROOM I: Agri-tecture and the History of Canyonlands, Wilderness Institute for Leadership Development (WILD/OARS)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Wilderness Institute for Leadership Development (WILD) was created to provide the ethical, educational, and experiential foundation for inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards and outdoor enthusiasts. WILD offers multi-day field-based education opportunities designed to provide participants a foundation for the exploration of all aspects of environmental, economic, and social sustainability.

Itinerary:

  • Our Cataract Canyon rafting trip begins with an orientation in Moab

  • Put-in at Potash
  • Enter Meander Canyon and study petroglyphs
  • Floating Classroom into Canyonlands National Park
  • Explore side canyons, prehistoric ruins, seasonal waterfalls and other sites
  • View Lathrop Ruin and ancient pictographs of solstice calendar
  • Explore Indian Creek’s fascinating Ancestral Puebloan ruins
  • Float past Pyramid Butte, the Goose Neck and Dead Horse Point
  • Meet the confluence of the Green River where Cataract Canyon begins, hinting at whitewater to come
  • Enter the Maze District and hike up to the Doll House viewing the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park
  • Challenge Brown Betty, Mile Long, Capsize and the legendary Big Drop Rapids
  • Enter Lake Powell at Hite and transfer back to Moab
