Along A Local Global Axis

Overviewteamupdatesworkspacecalendarfiles

Commonly imported and local materials perform in combination to propose an earthquake resistant housing scheme for the inhabitants of Kashmir currently without adequate shelter.

The scheme considers phasing construction where immediate shelter is provided and where subsequent phasing fills in the framework of the previous forms guided by the continuous strip foundations. These foundations also provide various ways to configure the multiplication of units and the potential for a number of communal conditions.

Technical principles are considered in the layout, building forms and materials proposed. Materials are readily available (steel is a common import for Pakistan) and layout and detailing is kept simple for ease of construction and future phasing opportunities.
