will this be too hot? this a lot of glass and how the sun effect the heat gain on the building?
we should definitely test it out further as we move on. We have done a preliminary sun study on which the design is based. Heres how we were thinking about it from a design standpoint:
The front, operable, glass system is set back 6'-9' from the actual building facade creating both a porch area and (hopefully) sufficient shading for the glass itself.
The operable side panels (towards the existing house) could be either wood or glass depending. From our initial sun-study we gather that that side of the building will be in shade for the better part of the day.
The high points of the roof allows for hot air to flow up and be ventilated out at key points.
In general we wanted the entire building to have the ability to open up, day and night, in order to utilize the exterior for performances, gathering etc.
If glass proves to be a problem, we can easily look into / substituting it with more traditional wood shutter options.
