Schedule
Request For Proposals launched: Dec 16, 2009
Registration Deadline: Jan 1, 2010
Submission deadline: Jan 16, 2010

Opportunity:
With the Homeless Women's World Cup arriving in Rio de Janiero, Brazil in fall 2010, Architecture for Humanity, Homeless World Cup, and Nike are teaming up with local partners Organização Civil de Ação Social (OCAS), and Bola Pra Frente (BPF) to establish permanent Legacy Centers. During the inaugural Homeless World Cup held in Melbourne in late 2008 it was identified by participating homeless delegations that the Homeless World Cup could establish specific programs for homeless women using football and social enterprise, enabling them to be the drivers behind their own social and economical development and in turn extend their knowledge with the same positive team attitude and leadership skills football brings forth.

Challenge:
Establish a network of Legacy Centers which use football programmes as outreach tools to empower women's leaders on and off the field. The initial two pilot Legacy Centers, a football-based Youth and Women's Leadership Center in Santa Cruz and the Women's Enterprise Center in Sao Paulo, will be operating by the 2010 Homeless World Cup Brazil opening ceremonies September 7th, 2010.

Goal:
• Social: The Youth and Women's Leadership Center will promote social sustainability through the implementation of a community center focused on youth and women's empowerment through leadership training, personal skills development, academic advancement, athletic training through involvement in team sports. The emphasis on education and leadership training uses football as the catalyst for change.
• Design: This center will be an inventive, flexible, replicable, and scalable solution for international communities lacking resources for women and youth.
• Resources: The center will be an exemplary project exhibiting sustainable principles of energy efficiency, resource collection, and locally sourced materials.

Project Scope:
• The program elements will be built in phases beginning with these base elements, with a configurable construction plan responding to the elastic needs of evolving groups through the duration of the center's operation.
• Program: A 22mx16m secured Greenfield football pitch with surrounding stadium seating. An additional pitch and practice area should be factored into site planning. Facilities for players and the community should include locker rooms, rest rooms, a community gathering space, and access to clean water. The education component should include flexible indoor classrooms, fitness center, child care, administrative offices and flexible start-up business units.

On December 15th, 2009 an RFP was issued to invite liscensed architects in Brazil and potential design fellows to contribute their best and boldest ideas.
