Gideon Artstop

Overviewteamupdatesworkspacecalendarfiles

A new light rail line is coming through our neighborhood here in Southeast Portland, Oregon. There is a proposed stop on SE Gideon and 12th. Citizens have already been activated to take care of a burgeoning train noise issue. Now we see that by being proactive we can have a say, not only on how the vicinity is impacted by the new transit stop, but on how the transit stop itself develops.

After reading about an arts station at Stanica (http://www.stanica.sk/main.php?page=PROGRAM&lang=EN) I was inspired about the possibility of an ARTstation here in Portland. The Gideon MAX stop will be just one stop away from OMSI, an existing cultural attractor, and just a few stops from Portland State University.

An Artstop integrates arts into transit in an active, programmatic way.

I've started this discussion with the landbridge, because there is some discussion that since a new bridge over the tracks (for pedestrian access) will most likely need to be built, this is the space that can be activated, perhaps creating a 2-story station stop, with space for art, local commerce, and community engagement!
