After three years in which the building experienced such conditions as 30" of snow, wind gusts up to 50 mpg, pelting rain, and heat to 95F, the overall condition is good. One component is suffering: the lime splash-back plaster at the bottom of the walls is peeling away from the earthen plaster beneath. We assume this to be caused by differential expansion between earthen and lime plaster mixes. To remedy this, the lime plaster will have to be removed. In future projects, the brown earthen coat will be mixed with lime. The finish coat of lime will be applied at the bottom and the earthen plaster above will be applied after such that the surfaces are flush to each other as opposed to the lime plaster being proud of the earthen plaster in the existing building.
