Kenya (Isaac):

Had a Site Progress Meeting #2 on Tuesday 30th March 2010.

In regards to Construction, the columns were completed and walling has began. According to the schedule, it was noted the contractor was behind by 1 week.

Reason: The type of exterior walling construction is unique and his builders are not familiar with it, so it requires more supervision and attention to detail. Andrew was made

aware of this delay and we requested for the Contractor to send us a revised schedule so that we could look through it and see how we can make up for this delay.

The first valuation was completed by QS and a Payment Certificate 01 was sent to SF to initiate the wire transfer.

Tenders for sub base were returned and a Tender analysis report issued to GF. I am still waiting for a signed Letter Of Intent to be issued by GF to selected contractor

The OAN has been updated with the latest site pics. New pics are uploaded every week to show progress on site.

Outstanding Information: LOI from GF is still pending.

contract: Bengali cannot comply with health and safety regulations

estimate is lower than before - now at 115,000 instead of 120,000 USD

may save additional 20k USD (9k for health and security crane, which is not necessary; 6k for uneccessary supervisor; 7k for extra insurance - TBD)

KG: health safety clause requires contractor to post their certificate of liability -- Bengali should provide this

MH sent breakdown of cost for health and safety provisions

GM: technically this breaches the tender and we should re-tender it

MH: even if the other guy included it, Bengali is still the cheapest

MH would not advise starting this process over

MH will advise if money went through to contractor by Monday

MH sent a copy of contract to architectural representative on site

warranty certification approved; site observation (arch representative) NOT approved by Jan C

MH sent contract to KG detailing site observation

KG will take a look at this put together a request for Jan C.

Kenya (Isaac):

KG: need to understand detailed requirements for setting up contract with Greenfields

IM: can handle same way as building

have selected contractor

letter of intent in progress

contract is between greenfields and sub-base and pitch contractor

IM has done due diligence and made sure letter of intent is in place

IM will have to arrange for contract to be signed (facilitate)

GM: has Greenfield agreed to show up for start and finalization of sub-base?

ie: pre-construction meeting after rough grading is complete

IM: has not heard back from Greenfield re: who will come to the site and when

KG: will get Erwin on the phone tomorrow with Jan to coordinate this

Article 25 has been working with them for awhile. also working with us in Haiti. has worked extensively with Lesotho community.

Idea: work with Article 25 to see what we can fund. Article 25 can be architect of record or design architects. greenlight this and fast-track Lesotho design phase?

KG: Kick for Life loved Article 25 work (visioning, community work) ... until they started designing the building. Design was handed to 3rd party without any history.

design is very walled-off and not welcoming. walled-city approach.

may be able to modify and move with it -- need to give community the right support and continuity.

At the beginning of December Karl and myself had the opportunity to present our schematic design to era architects for feedback. The presentation looked at the culture of the Maasai people, their traditionally nomadic way of life, their architecture, and a proposal for the new school and school grounds. Feedback on the design portion of the presentation focused on two key areas of the project, the first being the constructability of the proposed classrooms, and the second being how to respectfully integrate the new site plan and building into the existing and lost cultural heritage of the Maasai people.
