Our Entry for the re-use of a discarded mattress tries to address several things. Firstly, we want to physically retain the shape of the mattress to emphasize the origin of our creation; secondly we want to address a mattress's double life of catering to activity versus non-activity, jumping, reading, kissing, versus sleeping, dying. It is a dialogue of presence versus absence, conscious versus unconscious and we work to express this in a transformation to a shelf storage unit with expression by the owner.
