The 'Chairtress' project stemmed from the need for a more sustainable chair than the everyday chair typically purchased in our stores today. The 'Chairtress' or Mattress Chair was created based on the need to reuse old mattresses while doing it in the most efficient and resourceful way possible. The 'Chairtress' is made from all parts of a mattress/box spring set. The mattress springs, padding, upholstery, wood frame, chording, grommets, etc were all used in the making of this sustainable chair. Life cycle analysis was done to compare the two chairs and prove the 'Chairtress' is the not only creative and comfortable, but sustainable as well. One man's trash is another man's Chairtress.
