The team of Geotectura (Dr. Joseph Cory), Axelrod Grobman Architects and Chen Architects has been chosen to plan the new green building of PSES to be built on the Tel Aviv University campus. The building will be built as a "green building" and will include integrated environmental technologies including energy production and water recycling. It will in of itself serve as a lab for green architecture, the first of its kind in Israel, accessible to students, researchers and the general public. According to TAU President, Prof. Zvi Galil, "The construction of the PSES green building at Tel Aviv University emphasizes the great importance TAU places on environment in general and green building in particular, as a leader in these fields. The establishment of the building is another important step towards developing TAU as a green campus, the largest green campus in Israel." The PSES building is the embodiment of the vision of Dame Shirley Porter who founded the Porter School of Environmental Studies in the year 2000, with a view to developing an interdisciplinary center of excellence that would drive developments in the field of environment in Israel and the region. In the first phase it will be approximately 2500 sq.m. in size and will house classrooms, lecture halls and offices. It will act as a meeting place for environmental researchers at TAU and representatives from other sectors, including government, industry and environmental organizations. The building will be built in line with the Israeli green building standard (5281) and the American LEED system, with the aim of acquiring LEED accreditation at the Platinum level. The PSES building will be built on the eastern side of the campus, adjacent to the southern end of the Zoological Gardens, next to the main entrance to the campus from the Ayalon freeway. In a strategic, visible location at the center of the Dan metropolitan region, the building will create a unique academic research center which aims to be accessible to all residents of the area. The selection process for the design team was comprised of two stages. In the first stage, the selection committee, headed by architect Danny Kaiser, chose a shortlist of 7 teams from the 39 leading Israeli firms who submitted their candidacy.
