We have quickly come to the end of February and what flash forward it has been.

Construction commenced.

Construction on the Mukuru site officially commenced on Monday 15th February 2010 and is scheduled for completion in 24 weeks that is if all goes according to schedule. So we will work together with team to ensure that SIDAREC gets its new home in good time.

CIEM is currently carrying out excavations and the perimeter wall is currently under construction. Look out for photo updates.

ECD, Guardhouse and Kitchen relocated

In order to keep SIDAREC's ECD programs running, the ECD was relocated to the back of the site and the existing structure that has housed the kids for so many years was pulled down. It will be good to hear that the materials from this demolished structure were then reused in the construction of their new temporary home. The kids settled comfortably in their new temporary home as they await the completion of the new modern permanent home.

Access to the site

Due to the poor drainage system infront of the site, the contractor had to construct drainage culverts at the front of the site for access. As this was happening the Nairobi City council has also commenced work on the main road infront of the Mukuru site. Hopefully by the time we open the centre this road will be complete and will put an end to the large volumes of dust and put an end to the "slip and fall" scenarios when it rains.

Next month....... we look forward to the first consultants site meeting, getting out of the ground and commencing with the casting of the ground floor slab. Please continue supporting us as continue with our humanitarian efforts in Mukuru kwa Njenga community.
