The property issue has been resolved – the eastern site boundary is slightly west of where previous site clearance work had taken place. The site may be narrower and longer than originally thought. Darren to check dimensions relative to the extg site drawing. There is still ample space for the extg site plan.
Site clearance is under way and nearly complete. James[enthusiastic local community worker] has been very successful at organizing local community volunteers. Expect grader on site late next week or earlier the week after.
Personnel:
Darren has met with the full Building Tomorrow team in Uganda: Joseph, Jimmy, Apollo and Ciprian.
Local community mobilization has gone very well – Darren and Jimmy are in regular contact with James.
GET will be closing down at the end of the month. A very good relationship with Dan [GET engineer] has been established. Both sides have expressed their desire and willingness to continue working together on this project.
Drawings:
Have received advice from Dan with regard to all revisions, but still awaiting feedback from Ewan.
Gifford can't complete drawings by April 21st - drawings to be forwarded to Darren to complete.
Four copies of the drawings to be printed and signed off for construction by the architect of record [local architect] and submitted to the council.
Drawings to be issued to tendering contractors by end of next week.
Contractor:
Joseph and Darren met with possible contractor, Paul Kimera, of Technology for Tomorrow. He came highly recommended to Joseph and was also recommended by Dan independently. He has a lot of experience with ISSB technology and has worked as GC on several projects. Joseph and Darren to visit some of these buildings and the site with Paul. Paul believes three months is a realistic build time.
Another meeting with different contractor scheduled for Tuesday
Still waiting to hear back from Isaac on recommendations, and have been trying to contact Johan Nietsch.
Material Research:
Outstanding questions re materials and construction mostly answered as per conference call notes – strapping and solar chimney sandwich panels still outstanding.
Approx 20 ISSBs will be fabricated on Monday for strength testing. Dan to oversee fabrication and testing.
Schedule
ISSB fabrication has been delayed and will push back the training by 2-3 days. This is not a major problem as there will still be time for the bricks to cure before superstructure walling takes place.
Grading may be pushed back to allow contractor to be more involved.
Expect to be starting construction work on May 3rd.
