PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This Sportable unit, coined the [s]table, is designed to be an extremely mobile and visible package. The young of Capao Redondo can play day and night using this quickly constructible, yet semi-permanent design. Materials are not wasted. Local labor is utilized. Vernacular climate-focused design is employed. Youth enjoy.
DELIVERY & CONSTRUCTION
The entire [s]table can be packaged in two shipping containers. These can be transported easily using already existing road, sea, and possibly air avenues. Upon arrival, the containers can be unpacked and assembly can begin. Building elements are pre-engineered and pre-fabricated (to the extent that can fit within a container), allowing a simple, fast, and efficient construction on site using basic tools. Once empty, the shipping containers now can open and become the rental areas for shoes, jerseys, futsal balls, etc. When not operational, these can be easily locked and secured to protect the goods. Disassembly is the reverse of construction, packing back into the containers and ready for the next site.
MATERIALS
Reclaimed local materials, specifically stud wall framing, plywood sheets, and roofing materials are used to comprise almost the entirety of this package. Shipping containers can be bought used for relatively low cost and an even smaller environmental impact.
LOCAL DESIGN & SUSTAINABILITY
Each structure is highly permeable allowing for a great amount of cross-ventilation and passive cooling. Cloth screens covering the futsal field and windows of buildings will be coated in a long-lasting, translucent, glow in the dark paint that allows the [s]table to come to life at night, a place children can enjoy at all hours.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & RETAIL OPPORTUNITIES
Manufacture, testing, and application of this ‘glow’ enamel can be applied to futsal balls and jerseys, creating a retail buzz opportunity. Economic income from the sale and rental of these items can serve to stimulate the [s]table environment and the local economy in which it resides in, wherever that may be.
