Mitazono Wakaba Youchien (Wakaba Kindergarten) is one of eight grantees of the MakiBiz Request for Proposal Program. They have been in the operation for more than 60 years providing a high-quality early childhood education to families in the Town of Natori.
Wakaba had a graduation ceremony in the morning of 11 March 2011, as did other schools in the area. Most of students and staff left the building by the time of the earthquake, but unfortunately they lost four students and one staff at their homes. Their building was swept away by the tsunami, and the kindergarten was forced to close its doors. However, the staff members are working to rebuild at a temporary office in a temporary market building in Yuriage.
MakiBiz is providing a portion of the total construction funding as well as architectural and business advice. We will continue to help them with accessing additional funding after the completion of the building (scheduled in the early 2014).
