Building Occupancy / Site Capacity:

Mission Statement:
MakiBiz seeks to create a community gathering space to bring together all generations of the affected area to collaborate on a new model of post-tsunami recovery that can be used throughout Tohoku region. MakiBiz provides expert advice on design, construction, and business development services to affected communities in support of their efforts at building back better.

MakiBiz seeks to help small businesses in the Tohoku region rebuild and recover. We provide design, construction, and business development referral services to the community of Ishinomaki in support of their efforts to build back better.

Recovery from disaster requires a holistic approach. Disaster survivors require access to a wide range of services, including counseling, education, training, construction and design. The integration of construction services with business support services is key to the long-term economic recovery of the region.

The tsunami did not differentiate between large and small businesses. We do know that a total of 1,749 SMEs were affected in Ishinomaki, resulting in the loss of 472,000 million yens in profits and the loss of 18,000 jobs in Ishinomaki alone. Of these, 6,024 jobs lost were in the construction sector.

MakiBiz provides the following services to support reconstruction in Tohoku:

1. Support for small business to rebuild and recover
2. Access to construction capital
3. Design and construction services
