Aboriginal Toronto - where is it? We’d like to give that question an answer.
We are currently working to provide a centre to foster the cultural and educational development of native and newer Canadians in our city.
Cultures are not made of museum artifacts but living breathing people evolving everyday. We’d like to celebrate today’s rapidly growing urban Native community, while providing the support and structure to welcome new urbanites and help native youth reach their full potential. We want to share and take pride in the legacy of the first Canadians.
Jake Chakasim, a member of the first nations community, has designed an environmentally-friendly building based on a traditional community centre - the longhouse.
The city of Toronto’s cultural department and director Rita Davies support us wholeheartedly, as does the honourable James Bartleman, lieutenant governor of Ontario, and we have found strong partners and common goals in the Aborignal Theatre Community. What we need now - funding and land. We continue to investigate various sites and opportunities.

the idea of a urban cultural centre is a great way to unity natives and non-natives to the living culture that we all are apart of today in our everyday life.
i think it is very ineteresting but you give only on view... i would like to have a view of the space between the two sides. Many elements found in it reminds me of Gingerbread architecture the crosses, the timber the height... it is interesting.
This would be a great entry to the Holcim Awards US - http://on.fb.me/holcim-awards
It is free to enter and there is $300,000 USD in prize money which could help fund the design work or go towards the construction of this project.
i like the design
It's encouraging to see beautiful buildings dedicated to education. I think intelligent network design is a key ingredient for learning facilities or collaboration campuses of any type. Fast network connectivity allows students to use virtual desktop computing and reduce IT administration costs as well as reduce electricity consumption.
