For weather, http://www.weatherreports.com/?location=okhaldhunga+nepal has been recommended as having the most detailed weather history of anything near our site. The location there is only at 4,400 ft (ours is above 7,000) and is about 25 miles south of Phuleli.
The schoolhouse will need to accommodate 2 teachers and 75 students.
Our research for the next few weeks needs to cover:
- regional information: climate and other conditions; what materials are readily available? etc.
- options for constructing buildings with stone
- options for using stone to build gabions
- roof designs, using either stone or metal
- composting toilets
- what additional questions we need to answer re:the site and the project
We also need to work on fundraising ideas and plans, for an event in September.
It may be useful to research the Druk White Lotus School.
What we currently know:
- The site is at 7,750 ft elevation, and about the same latitude as Austin, TX.
- It is a 10 hour walk from the nearest airport.
- It is a in a seismic zone.
- There is electricity and running water available.
