Design fellow has reviewed works performed on site in order to approve first payment to contractor; some adjustments to VIKA’s invoice are needed before payment can be approved.
Tanesco has already removed wires and poles from the site.

Brick samples have not yet been approved, looking for an alternate of materials available in the region.

Clearance of pitch area has started, contractor to send bill of quantities before starting with further works.
Ring beam concrete casting to start on Saturday the 10th of November, Vika’s director will be supervising the work in Iringa to ensure an accurate performance of works.
Vika construction has received confirmation of first payment.
Brick sample has been approved and contractor was provided with samples of how brick works should be performed.

Casting has been completed; 14 days to go before scaffolding can be removed.

Brick walling and plaster is 100% completed on the composting chambers.
Ring beam reinforcement and formworks for concrete casting on the toilet block has started on Friday the 16th of November.
Clearance of pitch area has been stopped due to walkway works and until casting materials are removed from the area,
Excavation for walkway works around the building has been complete, waiting for availability of material to start stonewalling.
Shortage of water and electricity in Iringa might cause delays on the work.

Clearance of pitch area has started on Thursday the 22nd of November. Real levels on site has been set out and differ from original levels on plans.
Contractor has re-submitted bill of quantities for pitch works. The information has been sent to Cape Town office for approval before sending to Greenfields.
Walkway works has been stopped due to scaffolding for the ring beams, the works will start again in 7 days when scaffolding will be removed.
Anticipated Critical Steps:
Engineer of record has not yet submitted a new quoting for the supervision of sub-base works, it might be necessary to look for a local engineer to do the job if the engineer does not accept to reduce the price.
Current Challenges
Only 4 colors for the roof available in Dar es Salaam, contractor to investigate how many weeks it will take to order the specified color.
Levels on pitch are slightly different from the ones shown in the topographical plans; some adjustments are needed in order to reduce the differences between building and walkway levels.

Ring beam formwork has started to be removed.
3 days more to remove scaffolding. Engineer of record visit is needed in Iringa to approve main structure works before brickworks start.
Toilet block brick walling has started, however design fellow has stopped the works due to the poor quality of construction, it was agreed with contractor that a sample of work will be performed before starting any wall of the project. Vika’s director is traveling to Iringa to supervise the work and approve the changes.
Difference of levels on site has been delaying pitch works, extra excavation and drainage might be needed
Engineer of record has accepted to supervise the pitch works within the budget. Design fellow has sent the contract for signature.
Anticipated Critical Steps:
Engineer of record to visit the site right after the scaffolding is removed; the high bulk of work at his office in Dar es Salaam has been delaying the setting of a date for traveling.

Change order and engineer’s recommendations need to be prepared in order to get the approval to change levels on the sub base area.

Report:
On Saturday the 1st of December Vika’s Director has visited the site to approve the works performed and to give instructions to workers, design fellow has complained about the quality of the brick works. Vika’s representative has agreed in repeating some of the walls and to plaster all the interior partitions without extra cost.
Architect of record visited site on Saturday the 8th of November; he has made some recommendations to the workers on how to perform works on a more effective and faster way.
Engineer of record cancelled his visit to site on Saturday the 8th of November, he still has not agreed on a new possible date to visit Iringa. His supervision is of high importance due to the stage of construction,
Recommendations for the pitch has been request and still has not been received. Approval for structure work on site is also required.
Contractor has started a sample of brick wall on Thursday the 6th of December, the quality did not meet the standards and another sample will be performed with two new samples of bricks brought to site from other region in Tanzania. The availability of materials in the Iringa region has been delaying the progress.
Greenfields: Container has arrived to Dar es Salaam port. Center host is responsible for VAT clearance, which needs to be done within one week before the government charges storage fees.
Engineer of Record has signed the new contract for the supervision of sub-base works.

• Contractor issued updates on construction program, some changes might be needed to cut construction time and finish works within the original schedule, design fellow will review proposal schedule together with engineer and architect of record.
• TRA (Tanzanian Revenue Authority) has requested a list of items and suppliers from contractor before granting VAT exemption, contractor to provide list to design fellow before the end of next week.
Anticipated Critical Steps:
• VIKA has not yet received money transfer test from Afh, another test needs to be done in order to ensure timely subsequent construction payments. First payment due to be received on the 27th of September.
