In addition to its sports offerings, the Iringa Football for Hope Centre empowers young people to be self dependant with vocational training and health services.

News:
The Iringa football for Hope centre is complete!

The project team is wrapping up some last items on site, but construction is done and the project beautifully sits in its environment.

Host Organization:
Iringa Development of Youth, Disabled, and Children Care (IDYDC)
Football based programs since 2001, Network member since 2005

Mission:
IDYDC wants to see health, economically and socially develop society where human rights are respected.

About the Centre Host:
The Iringa Development of Youth, Disabled and Children Care organization is a local non-governmental organization, founded in 1991, operating in all seven districts of Iringa region with its headquarter in Iringa Municipality. Its main focus is children in need--school drop-outs and child laborers--with the aim of giving them a brighter future by enhancing the children’s possibilities of education.

IDYDC’s support programs were some of the first to be introduced in the country. The program has already assisted more than 20,000 children since its establishment in 1994 through different projects and activities undertaken. Most of the children enrolled are currently self-dependent and many work to care for their siblings and parents. Youth are supported with vocational training education and health education on HIV/AIDS and Substance Abuse. Health program [EDU Sport] is responsible with the health education provided by IDYDC. After completion of their studies, OVC in collaboration with VTC office has the responsibility of linking them to Micro-finance institutions including IDYDC MFI Program

Design:
Alma Ruiz and Rogerio Nogueira da Costa

The project lies at the bottom of one of several small rocky mountain formations in the Iringa region. The FFH Center adapts to the topography of the site taking advantage of an 8 meter level difference on the terrain surface. The Center will be placed in the highest point of the land to enable high visibility from the approach while permitting the creation of a natural seating area with visual connections to the pitch.

A covered access square with views to the pitch will invite people to enter to the building, the square can also be used as a seating area for costumers using the canteen. Access to the offices, library and community hall are directly related to the pitch and the sliding doors can all be open at the same time to create an open shaded reception area.

Sustainable Features:
The use of natural local materials such as bamboo, recycled wood from IDYDC carpentry workshop, stones from the Iringa rocky region and soil added to the burned bricks are the main proposed materials to incorporate for a more sustainable /low budget project.

The toilet block implements dry composting toilets using two separated chambers, the fist underground chamber filters the solid from the liquid waste creating a solid compost that can be used after a year to feed the plants and green areas around the pitch. No water is required to flush the toilets.

A water pomp has been installed on site, the water to be collected comes from the mountain and it has been use during construction of the building.
